'Prancing Peacocks' was a theme that interested many batik artists on the North Coast, but not in the Principalities of Yogyakarta and Surakarta until the 1960s, after Hardjonagoro 'Go Tik Swan' had made the breakthrough in creating a national style of batik - Batik Indonesia - rendered in free hand. The feeling of excitement is quite strong in this rendition of the prancing peacocks, with feathers flying everywhere.
Mohammad D Hadi (MD Hadi) had been taken away in 1966 because he was a member of the Lekra (Institute of People's Culture).
